Alpenglow from Pondicherry II - Presidential Range
Shot in mid-November just after sunset, a the magenta alpenglow takes on a more blue character as it lit up the Presidential Range (Castle Ravine and Mt. Jefferson, & Washington from L to R). The scene was enhanced by the contrast between the snow on the peaks and snow-less bare woodlands below. Cherry Pond is in the foreground, and is frozen over but snowless. It is easy to see why Pondicherry National Wildlife Refuge was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1974 by the National Park Service.
